Classic Queen
by Mick Rock
The supergroup that just won’t go away, in pictures and words
Mick Rock himself took the iconic shots for the covers of breakthrough albums Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, the former proving the 70s equivalent of With The Beatles’ moptop headshot. His Queen work, accomplished during the period 1970-75, was previously showcased in 2003 in a prohibitively priced limited edition from Genesis Publications, so at £20 this is effectively the mass-market version. (Omnibus were unable to elucidate on the similarities/differences, but we’d hazard a guess at same pics/ new text.) Whatever the truth, the most fascinating images are the variations on a theme: the pics that were rejected in favour of the famous shots.
