Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Pride & Joy
Expanded edition of 1990 collection
Released shortly after Vaughan’s untimely death, the 30-minute Pride & Joy video collection chronicled all the imaginative music videos Vaughan and Double Trouble made from 1983 through 1989, plus a barn-burning live cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s I’m Leaving You from MTV’s chaotic 1987 Mardi Gras celebration. This expanded 70-minute version includes the Little Wing blues tribute video from The Sky Is Crying, all three MTV solo Unplugged performances from 1990, video material shot for the Family Style project with Vaughan’s brother Jimmie and a pair of vintage TV commercials. The unplugged clips are particularly fascinating, as Vaughan demonstrates his 12-string fretboard facility on a pair of instrumentals and an earnest Pride & Joy. Likewise, the trio of Family Style tracks that encompass two videos, and a closing segment that’s part duo interview, performance clips (the brothers play surf guitar together at one point) and studio footage. Christmas comes early this year for SRV fans. This one sits on the shelf alongside his earlier pair of live DVDs.
