Various Artists - Goin’ Home: A Tribute To Fats Domino
The outpouring of love for Antoine “Fats” Domino when he went temporarily missing in the wake of Hurricane Katrina spoke volumes for his standing in not just the musical community, but as a much-cherished personality among the populace at large. Having said that, if the muso world is that fond of him, it would have been kinder of them to leave his wonderful songs well alone. An impressive roster of big names line up for the tribute album, but add little to the glory of the originals. Robert Plant, Paul McCartney and Randy Newman come closest to capturing the atmosphere of Domino’s songs, but the likes of Elton John, Corinne Bailey Rae and Joss Stone offer little more than competent karaoke.
