HOWE SOON IS NOW
Your report that Catherine Howe’s What A Beautiful Place album had sold on eBay for £1220 (OK Computer, RC 336) got me interested because I was one of the few people who bought it at the time. Sadly I have played it so much that my copy would not qualify as ‘Mint’!
I could never understand why Catherine (left) did not become as famous as, say, Kate Bush. She was a unique talent and this is a truly beautiful record, with amazing orchestrations by Bobby Scott, who wrote He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother. The LP was reissued recently on the Numero label and the critic Barney Hoskyns said, I think, that she was the missing link between Joni Mitchell and Dusty Springfield! Catherine is still playing and recording and several of her other albums were reissued recently by BGO.
