WHO’S RIGHT?
I’m a professional dealer since 1992 and travel all around the globe to get good items. This year I plan another trip to Israel and New Zealand. I specialise in Japanese, Portuguese and Turkish editions. I’m selling at the Utrecht and Olympia Record Fairs and am every time very succesful. I think I am not ‘doing wrong’ if these two fairs are succesful!
I have been reading RC since 1992 and very often I thought ‘these guys are mad’ with their magazine. Sometimes indicating values you are way too expensive and sometimes way too cheap. How do you get these values?
Aren’t we (the pro-dealers) a reference.? Is eBay (the flea-market) the ONLY one?
Looking at the last issue, the values given by Rich Weiner on the Who rarities are ???? Where the hell can he get a My Generation Swiss for $300 (220 euros)? I got five copies in the last l5 years and always sold them around EUR 750. You don’t see these things anywhere!
Same question for the Portuguese I’m A Boy EP: $ 250 is simply ridiculous! Try and get one for that price in Lisboa (I go there once a month). Go, try! Then suddenly he puts a $50 value for The Real Me Belgium 7” that you can find in every shop and at every fair over here for $10. Why? Big Hits Like Who Dutch LP for $150? Let me laugh! I bought one in Utrecht but had to pay EUR 500 ($ 675) for it. The guy is underestimating his collection.
I am currently spending between $2,000 to $5,000 a month (US$) on my record collection. The prices I have quoted, while always subjective, are based on eBay trends, global record dealers and European record fairs (which I have attended regularly over the last six years). Of course there are always exceptions - both high and low. Rich Weiner, www. thewho.info
