TROUBLE IN STORE
Record Store Day was a farce. Days before 17 April The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen singles were being sold on eBay and Amazon Marketplace for over £70. Which must mean that some record shop owners were profiteering and had no intention of selling them in-store. My local vinyl stockist had a couple of copies of the Blur and Paul Weller singles, plus a few others, which sold out in minutes. Most of their order never arrived. If this is to really promote record shops there should be thousands of copies available – not just rarities that a few can enjoy, and the majority bought by touts to sell for a big profit. The same thing happened last year and it’s very frustrating for genuine collectors who cannot afford inflated prices. I will buy the Stones and Flaming Lips on CD and I had to buy the Springsteen song from iTunes. Most of the tracks will eventually become available in different formats but, if you want the original vinyl it will be very expensive.
