VINYL RENAISSANCE
I’ve been reading RC for many years but the February edition was one of the best I’ve ever read. Being an avid Elvis Presley fan the article Elvis: Secrets Of The King’s Jukebox was fascinating – so many fantastic records, and the thought of Elvis (left, courtesy of www.elvisunlimited.com) singing along to Roy Orbison while driving along in his car was brilliant. From the Rock ‘n’ Roll Diaries to DJ Mike Read’s up-for-sale record collection, the magazine was compelling.
In particular I enjoyed your Back On Black: The Vinyl Renaissance news story – I’ve just bought a new turntable after selling my collection about 15 years ago (what a fool) and been marvelling at Elvis’s The Jungle Room Sessions, a 2-LP 180gm vinyl by the Follow That Dream (FTD) collector’s label. I’ve also got a new 180gm remaster of Smokin’ by 70s boogie rock legends Humble Pie on order. The thrill of dropping the needle on the record again after so many years, and the gorgeous artwork of the sleeves, all add to a music fan’s dream. Also the band’s name on the vinyl label and that sound only vinyl can give, warm and soulful. Vinyl’s here to stay, although it never really went away. A classic art form that just can’t be beaten. Thanks RC, long may you continue to captivate your readers.
