ULTRADRUMMER
As a longstanding Ultravox fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the feature on the band in the April issue (RC361). There is, however, an error in relation to the reason behind Warren Cann’s departure. You state that Warren (left) ‘wanted to return to a mainly acoustic kit’ and then imply that the recruitment of Mark Brzezicki, using an acoustic kit, was something of any irony.
The truth is, in fact, the complete opposite. Warren was an electronics expert who loved working with drum machines and it was his desire to move away from traditional drumming that resulted in the band telling him that his services were no longer required.I’m sure all fans of the band would agree that Warren’s combination of acoustic and electronic drumming made for a stunning live sound, and things were never the same during the brief time that the band continued without him.
