SUPER NOVA
An omission from your 200 Rarest Albums Of All Time: in May 2006, I sold a vinyl LP by minimal wave artist Paul Nova, Trees Without Leaves, on eBay for £515. It is on the Exhibit One label, based in the Midlands and was released in 1983. I’ve seen this album fetch over £300 several times in the last five years, His three 12” singles regularly fetch £100+. Minimal Wave (or Cold Wave) is a fascinating genre. Basically, it is the UK scene from around 1979 to 1981, pop/synth duos in the main, releasing records on their own private pressing labels, often in small quantities. The missing period between Bowie/Roxy/Kraftwerk and the New Romantic era. www.minimal-wave.org is a good place to start.
There were a large number of artists at the £300 price mark and full details of their records can be found in the 2010 edition of the Rare Record Price Guide. Here are their names: Amancio D’Silva, Ambrose Slade, Arzachel, The Beatles, Brain, Duncan Browne, Carl Mann, Catherine Howe, Clarke Hutchinson, Cyril Davies, Depeche Mode, Derrick Harriott, Derrick Morgan, Dion & The Belmonts, Gayfeet, Genesis, Iron Maiden, Isolation, Jelly Bread, Joyful Sound, Linda Hoyle, Mandy Morton Band, Mighty Baby, Mike Taylor, Motiffe, Nino Tempo, Parameter, Platters, Rainbow Ffolly, Raw Material, Robin Scott, Saints, Skatalites, Soul Vendors, Spirogyra, Tommy McCook & Glen Brown, Tony Caro & John, Twink & Fairies, Wil Malone, Windy Corner and Zakarrias.
