PEPPER – IF ONLY
I have just finished listening to the 40th anniversary version of the Sgt Pepper album for the umpteenth time. What a fantastic package EMI and Apple have put together to mark this anniversary. The three-disc CD is brilliant. The remastering of the original stereo CD is superb and it’s great to hear all those notes with so much clarity. But the highlight has to be the mono release, the first time on CD of course. The remastering job on this one is out of this world. All those additional little bits come to life, the way Messrs Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr wanted us to hear it. The bonus third DVD is also well worth watching. A great mini-doc of the making of the LP, plus the ‘video’ of A Day In the Life and bonus footage of All You Need Is Love, the packaging puts little companies to shame! Wakey wakey, Mark... Oh, it’s all a dream. Still the Travelling Wilburys package almost makes up for it! Wake up EMI/Apple, do we have to wait for the 50th anniversary?
