HOTULL CALIFORNIA?
Hotel California being one of my favourite classic rock tracks of the 1970s, it was most interesting to read the recent feature on The Eagles (RC 348). However, being a major fan of Jethro Tull since their very early days, I had actually noticed prior to Ian Anderson’s comment on the Tull tour of several years ago that The Eagles guitar chord progression on the introduction to Hotel California bears an uncanny resemblance to We Used To Know from the 1969 Stand Up album by Jethro Tull. Ian also mentioned the fact that the Eagles had been a support band for Jethro Tull in The Eagles early days, only adding to the mystery of the similarities. I recommend both Jethro Tull fans who are not familiar with this rumour and The Eagles fans to give another very careful listen to both We Used To Know and Hotel California and let your own ears be the final judge.
