BUDDY HARD TO FIND
Re Phil Rhoden’s letter (RC 341) about the absence of a definitive Buddy Holly CD box set. I’m not claiming to have such a set but I do have What You Been A-Missin’, a fascinating four-CD set (in a vinyl LP-sized box) with an amazing 48-page colour booklet. It’s on Vigotone (Virgo 134–137). The four discs are: Lost And Found (35 tracks including very early demos, out-takes and undubbed versions), Let’s Go (40 tracks including out-takes and promos), In New York (35 tracks including various interviews) and Buddy For Others (32 tracks with Sonny Curtis, Waylon Jennings, Sonny West etc.). You can apparently download the four CDs at www.mp3stor.com/lbums/66/4785/0/buddy_holly/ but to me that’s not the same and, of course, there is no booklet! I’ve heard it has been out of print for about 11 years but with perseverance and a lot of luck an original set should be possible to be find. Whatever it costs, it will be worth it!
