POOR PERCEPTIONS

POOR PERCEPTIONS

Having learnt about Perception, The Doors’ 40th anniversary issue from your magazine (RC 331), and having later bought it, I would like to share some impressions with you.

I am a music writer, collaborating in this capacity with a number of Polish magazines. My main field of interest is the psychedelic breakthrough in rock, its background and aftermath. Thus, I felt obliged to enrich my album shelf with the aforementioned edition. To my disappointment, I found out that not only are the majority of bonus tracks almost rubbish (40 minutes-plus of “drafts” for Roadhouse Blues), but the official description of some DVD material is just misleading. When the Music’s Over and Love Me Two Times obviously do not come from Live In Europe 1968 (except for one or two initial minutes of the latter), but from soundstage performances. A separate question is why should a monumental special edition commemorating one of the most influential bands in the whole history of rock have been spoiled in this way, and potential buyers plainly disappointed?
