STILL TRAMPING, STILL SUPER
Former Supertramp singer/guitarist Roger Hodgson tells Tim Jones about his new DVD…
It was recorded in Montreal and released in Canada last year. Now we’re releasing it everywhere on 17 September, on Eagle. It includes a lot of songs I wrote for Supertramp, plus a couple of newer ones.
What else is happening?
I’m really enjoying being back on tour and I’m looking
forward to my first solo UK tour in October. It’s going
to be an emotional homecoming. Then I’ll look at
doing another CD.
How has your solo career gone?
In 1987, I made Hai Hai with the best LA session
musicians. But the week it was released, I had an
accident and broke both my wrists. That put me out of
action for over a year and killed the album’s chances of
success. Doctors told me I’d never play again, but I
proved them wrong. Ten years later, I recorded Rites Of
Passage with my son Andrew, aged 15, and a band
including (Supertramp’s) John Helliwell. My last, Open
The Door, was released exclusively in Europe in 2000.
What session have you done fans might not know
about?
Not long after my final school year, I did my first
recording, Mr Boyd, with a session band including Reg
Dwight, later Elton John. It was released under the
name of Argosy. I also co-wrote a song on …
