Jimmy Page the power and the glory

Iseems entirely fitting that Jimmy Page is sitting here in the artists’ lounge of Gibson Guitars’ Soho offices. We are here to discuss the release of the appropriately titled It Might Get Loud, a triumphant and truly compelling cinematic journey through the lives of Page, U2’s The Edge and Jack White of The White Stripes – three of the most singular musicians ever to pick up an electric guitar.
While you could certainly argue that both The Edge and Jack White are possibly the most instantly recognisable guitarists of their respective eras, nobody would seriously dispute the fact that Jimmy Page is anything but one of the most innovative, influential and versatile guitarists and songwriters in the history of rock and roll.
Directed by Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth), the film was mostly shot in London, Dublin and Franklin, Tennessee, and tells the story of three generations of guitar players for what Page describes as “an abstract, almost metaphysical” investigation into the power of the instrument. The film closes with an improvised “guitar summit” showing the trio trading their tales, riffs and opinions on their favourite subject – the electric guitar.
