The Top 50 Morrissey Rarities Compiled by Travis Gravell

Since breaking from The Smiths in 1987, a band whose lifespan lasted but five glorious years, Morrissey has worked as a solo artist for more than two decades. In that time, he has amassed an enormous body of work, to be enjoyed, inspected and collected.

With the acclaiming of The Smiths as the most influential band of all time by the NME, and his own legendary comeback in 2004, Morrissey’s collectables are enjoying an all-time high in value. Because of his willingness to stick to his guns, musically and lyrically, he has carried that hardcore base of Smiths friends (Morrissey never demeans his listeners by calling them ‘fans’) through to his solo career: a feat which is rare in itself, considering that some of the singers in the biggest bands in the world can’t hold our interest as solo artists.

Despite being an outsider in the music business for over 26 years, the fervour for his music has only grown with his now legendary status in the UK music scene.

With the understanding that such a large amount of collectables can offer an amazing challenge to categorise, we have assembled a Top 50 rarities list of Morrissey’s officially released and record company-sanctioned recordings, from around the globe.
