PURE GOLD THE 30 MOST COLLECTABLE ARTISTS OF OUR TIME

Since the first issue appeared as a supplement to The Beatles Monthly in September 1979, Record Collector has religiously charted, listed and written about rare records and not so rare records with a love, dedication and knowledge unsurpassed in the field. We have published endless discographies on bands from King Crimson to Simple Minds with features and minute dissections of pressings, obscurities mega-rarities and, of course, the music. In that time, The Rare Record Price Guide has also established itself as the benchmark for the price of UK records around the world from The Beatles to the only single ever issued by Druid Chase. We have, in the past, compiled frequent lists, from collectable psych singles to mouth watering Vertigo collectables. Thus it only seems fitting that we celebrate our 30th anniversary by getting in trouble and presenting a list of our Top 30 collectable artists. Although based solidly in current values and collecting trends, the list itself is inevitably open to debate: a large number of readers are going to take a look and wonder where their favourite band is. No Black Sabbath? No Beach Boys? No Coldplay? There were some tough decisions made and about 20 artists who were literally equal on points, so to fill the last several places we had to go on goal difference!
