BLUESY BRITISH AND RARE PART 2 THE AMERICANS
BARRY WINTON CELEBRATES THE AMERICAN BLUESMEN WHOSE WORK FOUND FAVOUR IN THE UK WITH A LOOK AT 40 GREAT (AND A FEW NOT SO GREAT) RECORDS WITH VALUES RANGING FROM £18 TO £600
As we saw in Part One (RC354), the blues inspired a whole generation of UK musicians. But the British blues boom also brought welcome recognition for the original American bluesmen, many of whom released records in the UK and visited these shores on tour.
Over the next five pages we celebrate 40 British LPs made by Americans. Some are great, a few are not, but the enduring appeal of the blues has ensured that most of them are highly collectable.
The albums are ranged in chronological order, with star ratings for musical quality. As ever, the prices are for guidance only and represent the value of original vinyl pressings in Mint condition. CD availability is indicated where known.
Happy hunting …
Thanks to Colin Larkin and his excellent book, The Virgin Encyclopaedia Of The Blues. Also to Angela McManus, Katie Page and Maria Williams for production assistance. In memory of Steve Moore (1958-08), a special person, sadly missed.
