Evan Marshall goes off the beaten track to find the uncollected Bob. Part Three – the 90s and beyond

Part Three of this article detailing hidden Dylan in the form of officially released tracks not included on his albums sees us rejoining him in 1990 and about to embark on a new direction in his career.

With reaction to 1990’s Under The Red Sky being largely negative, Dylan entered something of a long-term writer’s block, with his next few albums being collections of traditional folk songs. At the same time, he threw himself ever further into his Never Ending Tour, seeking constant reinvention of his back catalogue on an almost nightly basis.

However, as was always the case, Dylan’s material continued to sneak out through a wide number of sources and he began to capitalise upon the ability to release a large number of bonus tracks via CD singles to bring the very best of his live performances to his fans.

Perhaps the most interesting development of this time, however, was his move into recording a large number of songs for soundtracks and tribute albums. These were far from being as disposable as you would think, and would ultimately lead him on the path to the astonishing rebirth his career is currently experiencing.

As before, to qualify for this list a song must have been officially released outside of a normal Bob Dylan album and feature Dylan on either lead vocals or as part of a duet. Promo tracks …
