Ken Sharp continues the tale

THE BEATLES

Ten years since the breakup of The Beatles, during the Double Fantasy sessions, Lennon would readily tell stories about the band and occasionally jam on an old Beatles tune.

John Lennon: If anything, I’m arrogant about The Beatles and what happened in The Beatles. That’s another good thing about the last five years. It has enabled me to look back at that period without being tense about it. I can see a lot of things more clearly now. Tennessee Williams said he slept through the 60s. Well, I didn’t sleep through the 70s, but I certainly had blinders on. Those years just went by. It’s good to be wide awake again.

Andy Newmark (drummer): He spoke about the Beatles a lot during the sessions. He would always refer to them as The Bs; “Oh man, The Bs did this and the Bs did that”. He only said positive, affectionate things about them.

Julie Last (assistant engineer): When he started reminiscing, everything would stop and we would all be like a bunch of kids sitting at an elder’s knee; just hanging on every word.

George Small (keyboards): One day he came into the studio and he took out the guitar that he played on The Ed Sullivan Show. Every body just went, …
