100 modern collectables
Jake Kennedy presents RC’s annual survey of the most sought-after records of the past decade
At the start of each year, we take a look at some of the more modern collectables out there, often more pricey than the landmarks of collecting. So if you don’t know your Ting Tings from your Elbow, your Deltron 3030 from your J Dilla, then read on. And if you do, some of these prices for records in your collection might surprise you. 99 per cent of this year’s rarities have never been covered by us before in our round up. They could be vinyl, CD, CD-R, promos or memorabilia, and the list cuts across all genres or musical movements. They are largely UK pressings, and more often than not the 7” single remains king, even in an age of downloading where physical album sales have been hit hard. We have focused on roughly the last decade only, to make the list truly modern, but there are plenty of artists included who have recorded outside of that timescale. Finally, each year we hear of things that you feel should have been in our list – so please remember this is in no way exhaustive – many of the acts could have 10 times the number of entries they have. If you think you’re sitting on a limited, unknown single by the next Arctic Monkeys, write in and let us know.
