John Peel's Record Box

Around the first anniversary of John Peel’s death a wooden box has been found, containing 142 singles that the late DJ kept close to him.

Peel’s son, Tom Ravenscroft, told The Times, ‘I think half these singles are stuff that meant a lot to him, because he’s had a box of 7”s before this. He lost one in the States and one in Amsterdam, so some of the records are things he’d been trying to get back. Now he has them back, he wanted to make sure he didn’t lose them again.

‘... If I tried to listen to every record in [his] collection, even if I spent every day for the rest of my life doing it, I could never get through them all. So the fact that he’s pulled a few out for me is a blessing.’

JASON DRAPER takes you through all of the 7”s, their CD availability (if any) and their current values. In tribute to Peel’s often obscure tastes, some of these have been difficult to track down. If any readers can fill in the gaps, feel free to write to us at the usual address.
