Diamond Discs 60
gems to celebrate 60 years of bowie
When Record Collector asked us to write an article celebrating the 60 rarest David Bowie items, we thought that ought to be a rather straightforward task. After all, some Bowie items exchange hands for incredible sums of money. However, a quick glance on a site like popsike.com reveals that a list of the 60 rarest Bowie items would be a rather dull experience. It would consist mostly of the early 1960s singles and picture sleeve variations from exotic countries such as Angola, Turkey or Mexico. This may be interesting for the hardcore Bowie collector but probably not for the average reader of RC.
So we abandoned the idea of a ‘rarest’ article and decided to replace ‘rarest’ with ‘Most Interesting’. We have listed the 60 items in a more or less chronological order, from David’s very first singles to the very latest promo on coloured vinyl. The illustrations are numbered to key them to the relevant section of text.
We hope that even the most avid David Bowie collectors will find new information in the next 16 pages . . .
