On the eve of his UK dates at Glastonbury and Wembley, JOHN FOGERTY gets philosophical with Ken Sharp

Boasting an extraordinary four-decade career of impeccable music making, John Fogerty is rightly celebrated as one of America’s most treasured and important songwriters. His timeless work with Creedence Clearwater Revival and his solo career are imbued with a ghostly incantation of swamp blues, country and rockabilly, all tinged with a generous helping of the bayou. Having penned a treasure trove of remarkable songs, including such gems as Proud Mary, Fortunate Son, Who’ll Stop The Rain, Green River, Lodi, Centerfield, Almost Saturday Night, Down On The Corner, Travelin’ Band and Déjà Vu (All Over Again), John Fogerty is the personification of the word legend.

You’re back with Fantasy Records and your recent hits and DVD collections are titled The Long Road Home. In many ways, does it feel that you’ve come full circle in your career?
This is just an outward manifestation. There’s been a lot of healing within my heart, mostly because of my relationship with my wife, Julie. Not to sound like an old philosopher, but that always makes things more possible that may have seemed impossible before (laughs). So I really had ever so slowly become much more comfortable with my own past and the music.
